About my approach
I offer a confidential and supportive space where you can be heard in a more attentive, attuned way than usual conversations supply. I am warm and straightforward and will deeply engage. While therapy can feel conversational, it is all about you.
You are the expert on your own experience. I am there to listen and notice. Through the combination of my training, professional knowledge, curiosity and engagement, I work to create a space where you can express and explore your thoughts and feelings, work through difficult material and develop a kinder relationship with yourself.
My training is in Transactional Analysis (TA). One of TA's principles is that everyone is OK. That sits at the heart of my work.
Change comes not only from being understood, but from being challenged, so I might gently encourage you to loosen old perspectives and explore new ways of thinking and relating. I also like to reflect on how we’re doing together and invite you to comment or ask questions.
My experience includes working for Macmillan Cancer Support’s counselling service, with both patients and carers. I also bring insight from my background as a writer and journalist, with a particular interest in the emotional challenges of creative and self-employed life.
